Cassowaries are large, flightless birds, that only live in tropical rainforests of Australia and Papua, New Guinea. Their bodies are covered with bushy black feathers that look like thick hair. Their legs are long and powerful, and their large feet are equipped with sharp claws.

Cassowaries are very distinctive birds and look like living Dinosaurs. They are easily identified by bright blue and red colours of their heads and necks. They also have a large horn-like structure – called a casque – that grows from the top of their heads.

The Southern Cassowary is the world’s second heaviest, and third tallest bird. Southern Cassowaries can grow up to 1.8 metres (5.9 feet) tall!

The Southern Cassowary is rated Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Populations of both species are declining and in danger due to ongoing clearing of their rainforest habitat for farms and housing.

Every time you sponsor a tree with TC, our expert Forest Builder, Brett, will plant a native tree that produces food for Cassowaries (and many other) animals, in Tully, Queensland, Australia.

Planting trees allows Cassowaries to produce young and avoid humans, dogs and cars. Help TC revegetate degraded lands and rehabilitate Cassowary habitat. As Brett loves to say…

" One Tree Matters. "

When you sponsor a tree with TC, we provide you with instant social proof your tree has been planted. We post a photo of every tree, with your name, on social media (Instagram, Facebook & Twitter) and onto our website. No photoshop. No asking you to trust in some random third-party verification whatever…endorsed by Blah Blah Blah.
